Your 5 Days Mount Kenya Hiking begins from Nyeri or Nairobi with a transfer to Sirimon Gate (2,440m), the starting point of your ascent. After check-in, begin a gentle 3-4 hour trek through ancient montane forests and heather-covered moorlands, arriving at Old Moses Camp (3,300m), also known as Judmier Camp, for dinner and overnight. This section is ideal for acclimatization and introduces you to Mount Kenya’s unique ecosystems.

5 Days Mountain Kenya On Day 2, the trail leads you deeper into the alpine environment. Trek across the Ontulili and Liki North Rivers, contouring through expansive moorlands before climbing into the stunning Mackinder’s Valley, home to towering peaks and glaciers. Arrive at Shipton’s Camp (4,200m)—a dramatic base located below the towering peaks of Batian and Nelion—for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 is dedicated to acclimatization, a crucial step for a safe and successful summit. Enjoy a relaxed walk to Kami Hut, Hausberg Tarn, and Nanyuki Tarn, before returning to Shipton’s for the night. This day helps your body adjust to the altitude while offering incredible views and photographic opportunities.

5 Days Mount Kenya Hiking. Day 4 is the highlight of your summit attempt at 3:00 AM, trekking across scree and rocky trails to reach Point Lenana (4,985m) at sunrise. On a clear day, you’ll witness panoramic views over the Kenyan plains and possibly even Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. After taking in the awe-inspiring scenery, descend via Mintos Hut to Mount Meru Bandas (2,950m). The descent follows the majestic Gorges Valley, where you’ll see Lake Michaelson, Mushroom Rocks, and unique volcanic formations. Enjoy hot showers, real beds, and a restful evening at the Bandas.

Day 5 wraps up your trek with a gentle 2-hour hike through bamboo forest before a 4×4 transfer to Chogoria Town, where your vehicle awaits for your return to Nairobi or Nyeri.

Day 1

Nyeri– Nanyuki /Sirimon/Judmier Camp (Old Moses Camp

Day 1: Nyeri– Nanyuki /Sirimon/Judmier Camp (Old Moses Camp) 3-4 hrs, 9km, 860m ascent

Leave Nyeri at 9 am proceed to Sirimon Gate, 2 hr, 2440m. From the gate follow the track as it winds uphill though the forest which becomes heath land after about 3 hrs. About 3½ hours from the gate the track veers right to Judmier Camp, 3300m for dinner and overnight.

Day 2

Judmier Camp/Shipton Camp 6-7hrs, 14km, 900m ascent

After breakfast, follow the track uphill, forking left at the junction. After one hour from Old Moses Camp, the track crosses Ontulili River. Go right contouring through the Moorland and crossing Liki North and continue uphill to Mackinders Valley from where there are panoramic views up the valley towards the main peaks. Dinner and overnight at Shipton Camp.

Day 3

Shipton Camp

Spend the day acclimatizing. Walk to Kami Hut down to Hauseberg Lakes (Hauseberg Tarn and Nanyuki Tarn). Walk back to Shipton for dinner and overnight.

Day 4

Shiptons/Point Lenana/Mount Meru Bandas (Chogoria Gate)

6 hrs, 14km, 785m ascent

Leave at 3am up a steep stony quarry that cuts through a cliff clearing visible part towards lower Hall Tarns arriving point Lenana at 6:30am, taking about 3hrs. After the sunrise, descend down to Mintos hut, 2hrs, for breakfast and further hrs down to Mount Meru Bandas, 2950m, for dinner and overnight

Day 5

Chogoria Bandas/Chogoria/Nyeri

Descend 2hr, 15km to forest clearance to catch a 4×4 transfer vehicle to Chogoria Village where you will connect with your transfer vehicle back to Nairobi.
