Your 6-Day Mount Kenya Hiking begins with a pick-up from Nairobi or the airport and a scenic drive to Chogoria Town, located on the eastern side of Mount Kenya. After a stop to meet your hiking crew (guide, porters, cook) and stock up on supplies, enjoy lunch in town before driving through lush forest to the Meru Mount Kenya Bandas. Spend the evening relaxing as your cook prepares your first mountain dinner.
On Day 2, begin your ascent from the Bandas to Lake Ellis via Mugi Hill (3,541m), an excellent acclimatization hike offering breathtaking views. The trail passes through open heathland, with chances to spot wildlife and unique alpine plants. Camp overnight at the peaceful shores of Lake Ellis.
Day 3 sees you trekking toward Mintos Campsite, a high-altitude site at 4,300m located near the scenic Hall Tarns and overlooking the dramatic Gorges Valley. This 7-8 hour trek gives you plenty of time to acclimatize while enjoying panoramic views, picnic lunch en route, and spectacular photo opportunities near the tarns.
The highlight of your 6-Day Mount Kenya Hiking adventure comes on Day 4, with an early morning summit attempt. Begin your pre-dawn hike under the stars to reach Point Lenana (4,985m) in time for a stunning sunrise over the African plains and, on clear days, even Mount Kilimanjaro. After your summit celebration, descend to Mackinder Camp (4,200m)
On Day 5, hike across the summit circuit via Hausberg Col to Shipton’s Camp for lunch, then descend further to Old Moses Camp (3,300m) for your final night on the mountain.
Day 6 concludes your journey with a leisurely hike through the Sirimon Forest to Sirimon Gate (approx. 3 hours), where you’ll meet your driver. After lunch in Nanyuki and farewells to your mountain crew, return to Nairobi for drop-off or Airport.
